Con esta serie de esculturas en cerámica cuestiono los sistemas antropocéntricos de poder que le han dado forma a la cultura occidental y que categoriza en binarios: bueno-malo, bello-feo, molesto-útil. Acorde a esta jerarquización ejercemos control sobre Lo Otro y decidimos que hay que preservar y que hay que eliminar. Los insectos que elegí representar son aquellos que consideramos hermosos o importantes y mediante el acabado invierto el valor asignado a ambas especies: los insectos terminados con esmalte y oro, mientras que las partes humanas no tienen acabado.

*Esta serie fue seleccionada y expuesta durante la exposición colectiva "Metamorfosis" en Galería Tandem, Texcoco en el 2024, donde fueron enmarcadas o exhibidas en capelos de cristal para enfatizar el sistema de valores que imponemos como especie, así como la idea de permanencia que hemos imaginado colectivamente.

With this series of ceramic sculptures, I question the anthropocentric systems of power that have shaped Western culture and its tendency to categorize through binaries: good–bad, beautiful–ugly, useless–useful. According to this hierarchy, we exercise control over Otherness and decide what must be preserved and what must be eliminated. The insects I chose to represent are those we deem beautiful or important, and through the finishing process I invert the assigned value of both species: the insects are glazed and gilded, while the human parts remain unfinished.

*This series was selected and exhibited in the group show “Metamorphosis” at Galería Tandem, Texcoco, in 2024, where the pieces were framed or displayed in glass cases to emphasize the system of values we impose as a species, as well as the collective illusion of permanence we have constructed.
