Trazos efímeros

2023

This series of ceramic sculptures emerges from questioning the anthropocentric systems of power that have shaped Western culture and that categorize in binaries: good-evil, beautiful-ugly, bothersome-useful. In accordance with this hierarchy we exercise control over The Other and decide what must be preserved and what must be eliminated. The insects I chose to represent are those we consider beautiful or important, and through the finishing I invert the value assigned to both species: the insects finished with enamel and gold, while the human parts have no finish.

*This series was selected and exhibited during the group show "Metamorfosis" at Galería Tandem, Texcoco in 2024, where they were framed or displayed in glass bell jars to emphasize the value system we impose as a species, as well as the idea of permanence we have collectively imagined.
