Ser liquen y otros ensayos para cohabitar

Ser líquen y otros ensayos para cohabitar is a videoperformance made in the Pedregal of Mexico City, a volcanic territory that concentrates multiple forms of life thriving in conditions we perceive as hostile. The piece arises from a bodily and ethical question: how to approach the non-human without occupying, dominating, or translating it through human categories?
In the action, I decelerate my rhythm and seek to assemble myself into the existing gaps of the volcanic rock. I do not seek to intervene in the landscape, but to respond to its material conditions: the roughness, the extreme temperature, the angles that limit movement. The body does not operate as a stable form, but soft and vulnerable, is shaped by the conditions of the place when confronted with a matter that neither yields nor receives gently. This friction activates a relationship that implies constant misalignment.
Lichen functions here as a figure of thought: a symbiotic organism that does not erase the difference between its parts, but sustains it. From this reference, the work rehearses a situated coexistence, aware that every presence alters. The gesture of assembling is not an idealized fusion, but a negotiation between rhythms and ways of inhabiting.
During the transit, the body becomes surface and bridge for other beings that adhere, hook onto, or pass through. This action displaces the human body from its centrality and proposes it as sensitive matter, capable of being affected and of affecting.
