Membranas hacia una reconfiguración
2025
Video installation created as the result of two months of artistic residency with curatorial accompaniment by olgaMargarita dávila at Lagos, Mexico City.
During the residency I experimented with biopolymers, and through that process the notion of membrane emerged: surfaces that separate and connect at the same time. Being organic matter, biopolymers respond to their environment: the humidity of the air makes them more flexible and soft; dryness stiffens and makes them brittle. They are flexible and selectively permeable barriers that allow transit, coming and going, but also friction and limit.
This work opened up an interest in points of encounter, understood as contact zones where the interrelation between bodies becomes visible and uncertain.
The projected video, Encuentro, rehearses a first contact with the non-human. Clumsy and ambiguous, my body assembles itself with fragments of the body of the earth — natural, artificial, and processed — exposing itself to forms of proximity that do not fully resolve. The video is projected through biopolymer membranes, some encapsulating remains of organic and synthetic nature, and invites the viewer to move between them and other bodies, inhabiting the friction and openness of these bonds.
